Description

From the efforts beginning in the 1950s to the doors opening in 1964, the London Muslim Mosque has been serving a growing and flourishing community. The London Muslim Mosque is hailed as the first mosque in Ontario and the second mosque in Canada.

The London Muslim Mosque (LMM) is located at the heart of London, Ontario, Canada at 151 Oxford Street West. It is the largest mosque in London and Middlesex county and serves as a religious organization, as well as a community centre. We are open for the 5 main prayer times and hold two congregational prayers on Fridays (12:00 and 1:30pm). All are welcome to join us!

History about the London Muslim community and mosque:

The first known Muslims arrived in London in the late 1800’s. Throughout the 1940’s & 50’s, families would meet in each others homes every weekend to socialize and teach religion and culture to their children – who were the first generation of Muslims born in London.

In 1955 the community, then consisting of only twelve families, purchased a property at the corner of Oxford & Summit street. The home on this property was renovated to serve both religious observances and social gatherings. Saturday evenings saw the community gathering for dinner, Sunday school was initiated for the children, weddings, funerals and prayers were held all held here in what became the first Mosque to be opened in Ontario and the largest Islamic institution in London!

Our Community is Growing!

Our community has grown tremendously over the decades and our institutions are growing to meet the need. The grounds at the London Muslim Mosque now consist of an award winning school, modern gymnasium.
